Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
The Sewing Company – Bespoke Sewing & Small-Batch Textile Manufacturing

1. What is The Sewing Company?
The Sewing Company is a UK-based bespoke sewing and small-batch textile studio. We help brands, designers, and makers turn ideas into beautifully made, production-ready products. That might mean developing a sample, refining a design, or producing a small run — always with care, attention to detail, and clear, honest communication.
We’re not a faceless factory. You’ll always know who you’re speaking to.
2. Who do you work with?
We mainly work with:
- Small and independent brands
- Start-ups and designers
- Retailers and organisations
- Businesses needing specialist or technical sewing
Whether you’re launching something new or testing a prototype before going bigger, we support your project from first idea right through to finished production.
3. What services do you offer?
We offer everything you need to move from concept to finished product:
✔ Product design & development — turning ideas into practical, sewable designs
✔ Material sourcing guidance — help choosing the right fabrics and components
✔ Prototyping & sampling — so you can test, tweak, and perfect
✔ Small-batch manufacturing — flexible runs tailored to your needs
✔ Consultation & production planning — calm, experienced guidance through the process
✔ In-house product photography — professional images ready for websites and marketing
4. Do you have minimum order quantities (MOQs)?
No minimums at all — even a one-off is possible. Just bear in mind that single pieces cost more per item than larger runs, as there’s no bulk saving. If you’re unsure what makes sense for your project, we’re always happy to talk it through.
5. Can you help if we’re just starting out?
Absolutely. If you have an idea but aren’t quite sure how to turn it into a finished product, we can help with design development, prototyping, and technical advice. We’ll also be honest with you, if we feel something may not work as intended or could end up costing you money without the right outcome, we’ll say so. That said, if you’d still like to go ahead, we’re always happy to sew and support your project..
6. Do you sell finished products to the public?
No – The Sewing Company focuses on business-to-business work and manufacturing support.
If you’re an individual looking for personal sewing, alterations, or creative projects, our sister brand Sewansome is the place to go.
7. Where are you based, and who do you work with?
We’re registered in Ivybridge, Devon, and work with clients across the UK. Distance isn’t an issue, good communication and well-organised processes go a long way.
8. How does the process work?
Our process is simple and transparent:
- Initial chat – we talk through your idea, goals, and timeline
- Design & technical planning – refining everything into a workable plan
- Prototyping & sample approval – testing, adjusting, and getting it just right
- Production – your products are made with care and quality checks throughout
You’ll always know where your project stands, no disappearing acts.
9. How do we get a quote or start a project?
Just get in touch via the contact page with a brief outline of your project. We’ll come back to you promptly and guide you through the next steps.
10. Do you offer photography or marketing support?
Yes. We offer professional in-house product photography, ideal for websites, social media, and eCommerce – so your products look as good online as they do in real life. You can see some of our photography here.
11. What kinds of products can you make?
We work with a wide range of sewn products, including (but not limited to):
- Tactical bags and gear
- Protective covers
- Pet and equestrian accessories
- Cushions and soft furnishings
- Small-run garments (scrubs, aprons, uniforms)
If it involves fabric and thoughtful construction, it’s always worth a conversation.
12. What makes The Sewing Company different?
We’re a small, hands-on studio, not a factory. We focus on quality, communication, and building genuine working relationships. You’ll deal with the same people throughout your project, and your work won’t be rushed through a production line.
If you value craftsmanship, flexibility, and knowing exactly who’s making your products, you’re in the right place.
